This game gave each team what was probably their lowest score in a match for this season. With both sides getting one try each it was the boot of Caron Rhys Davies, whose conversion and penalty proved to be the difference between the sides.
The match itself never seemed to quite get going. This could have been due to both sides determination not to lose being greater than their determination to win, or it could have been the blustery conditions making flowing play difficult. That said, there was a great deal of effort put in by both sides
Llandudno started strongly and dominated possession in the first quarter. However, Nant's defence, as usual, proved resolute, denying Llanduno any scoring opportunity. When Nant had the ball they were unable to put together many phases, often losing the ball to knock-ons, penalties or turnovers. This was the pattern of much of the match.
Llandudno could and should have taken the lead just before the half hour. From a ruck on their right, Llandudno, for the only time in the match, out-flanked Nant's defence. A poor final pass, however, resulted in a missed opportunity when a score seemed certain.
This seemed to spur Nant on and it was they who perhaps should have gotten the breakthrough score a few minutes before half time. Sion Pringle made a cross-field run to the left, his pass inside opened up the Llandudno defence, producing a scoring chance, only for the touch judge to, inexpicably, call play back for a foot in touch.
Nant did not have long to wait, however. With two minutes to go in the half, Pringle gathered a lose ball. His delayed pass put Cain Jones through and Pringle was on hand to take the return to score under the posts, giving Nant a 7 - 0 half time lead.
Several long-range penalty attempts early in the second half, the third being successful, gave Nant a 10 - 0 lead. The game then returned to its now familiar pattern before another eyebrow raising decision denied Nant a score. A dropped pass was kicked ahead by Davies. His second kick saw the ball bounce up nicely for Pringle, coming through at speed, to gather and head under the posts. However, the referee deemed him to have been offside and the score stayed at 10 - 0.
With time running out, Nant were reduced to 14 players following a yellow card. Llandudno stepped up the pressure, resulting in a series of scrum penalties being awarded near Nant's goal-line. From here a quickly taken penalty caught Nant out to give a 10 - 5 scoreline.
The final minutes were played in Llandudno's half of the field from where they tried to run every ball. However, they failed to breach the defence in any way and Nant took the victory.
