Nant Conwy 55 - 14 Mold

Nant Conwy beat Mold in front of what was an unusually small number of fans for them. In doing so they retained their North Division 1 title with three games to spare as Llandudno were only able to claim a losing bonus point at Bala.

First half tries by Sion Pringle (2), Cain Jones, Cai Jones and Caron Davies, 3 of which were converted, against a converted try by Mold, gave Nant a comfortable 31 - 7 lead at half time. Second half tries by Rhydian Jones (2), Caron Davies and Cain Jones, together with two more conversions, against a converted try for Mold, gave the full time score of 55 - 14.

The result doesn't reflect the strong driving play of the bigger Mold side, who for the first quarter dominated in the scrummage. It does, however, reflect the determination of this Nant side to defend resolutely when the opposition has the ball, the support play throughout the team and the speed of the backs, both of foot and mind, when they get clean ball. 

Just the one try, by scrum-half Cai Jones, came directly from tight driving forward play, when he forced his way over after a number phases. The other tries came from fast interplay amongst the backs. All but two were as a result of the forwards presenting clean ball to the scrum half, be it from scrum, line-out, ruck or maul.

Nant began the game at a ferocious pace and were on the scoreboard in less than 2 minutes when Rhydian Jones moved in from the left to put Pringle in. The second try came from quick interplay down the right from Nant's 22 to see Cain Jones go over. Pringle then got his second try which was very much like the first with Rhydian Jones coming off the wing to give the scoring pass.

Cai Jones then got his try following forward drives before Caron Davies glided in on the left wing. 

The second half also began at a furious pace and saw Pringle become the provider for Rhydian Jones's first try, before Caron Davies, with a straight run, went in under the posts.

Nant's final two tries by Cain Jones and Rhydian Jones were scored on the left wing following Pringle leaving would be tacklers in his wake.

Overall a very satisfactory outcome for Nant.

The downside to the game were the three yellow cards, one for Mold and two for Nant.
