Despite the flooding throughout much of the country, a morning inspection confirmed the Pant Carw pitches were fit to play. Perhaps the players from both teams had been anticipating a lie-in which may explain the stuttering start littered with knock-ons, crooked throws and penalties.
The early stages saw Llangefni doing most of the pressing and, from one of the many penalties, take the lead after 15 minutes. This was short-lived as Nant, spurred into action, equalised through Caron Davies.
Soon after, Nant got the first try of the match, when the ball was dropped by Llangefni in the three-quarter line, allowing Derwyn Jones and Deian Roberts to hack ahead before the former picked up and won the sprint for the line and the try, converted by Caron Davies.
Nant's play was now becoming more cohesive. A poor clearence kick by Llangefni saw the ball gathered and quickly moved from left to right. From there it was then moved back across field. Following several phases, slick handing through the three-quarters saw Rhydian Jones outpace the cover to go over for a converted try.
Half time 17 - 6 to Nant.
The second half began in much the same way as the first, with Llangefni doing most of the pressing. However, Nant's defence was always on top and Llangefni were resorting more to kicks to gain ground. It was from a kick directly to touch which gave Nant a throw just outside the opposition 22. The ball was moved quickly to the right, and then, after several rucks, moved left again for Ifan Williams to go over in the corner. Davies converted. This was soon followed by a penalty to give a score of 27 - 6.
The priority now was to ensure the bonus point which duly came in the 65th minute. From a scrum in midfield swift interpassing among the backs saw the ball flicked inside for Derwyn Jones get his second try, converted by Davies.
It had come as a surprise to some that, given the number of penalties awarded, no yellow cards had been shown. This soon changed when a eventful last 5 minutes saw a Nant yellow card for an illegal clearout in the ruck, swiftly followed by a Llangefni sin binning for a deliberate trip.
The final action was reminiscent of the first try. A dropped pass by Llangefni saw the ball hacked and dribbled ahead by Caron Davies before gathering and going over for the try. His conversion gave him a one hundred percent kicking success and Nant the match by 41 - 6.
