Anybody watching the first 10 minutes of this game could never imagine that the final score would end up as it did. Denbigh had a good amount of possession throughout this opening period, and indeed the match as a whole, but it was Nant's speed, support and lines of running that carried the game.
From the kickoff Denbigh pressed but, after 5 minutes, a break by Caron Davies put Sienchyn Metcalfe in for the first try. A second looked almost certain but a final pass was intercepted by Tom Wynne who had what looked like a clear run to the Nant line. However, Morgan Dafydd's tracking back and Rhydian Jones's cover from the opposite wing, forced him into touch.
A second try by Nant was not long in coming. A lineout steal by Carwyn Ellis saw the ball moved from the right wing to the left. Though the moved was stopped the ball was quickly recycled back right and Ellis went over in the right corner.
The third try came almost immediately from the restart. The ball was moved to Rhydian Jones on the left. He cut in and made a mid-field break before giving a scoring pass to Deian Jones. Conversions of this and the first try gave Nant a 19 - 0 lead.
Denbigh then hit back with a try by hooker Tom Jones following a driving maul from a linout. Tommy Jones added the extra points.
Nant restored the points gap when a low, mis-pass was fortunately hacked on by Cain Jones for Elis Fôn to pick up and score. Further tries followed from Rhydian Jones who went over on the left following a three quarter move. Then just before half time Ifan Williams was on hand to take the scoring pass from Metcalfe. The last three tries were converted to give a half time score of 40 - 0.
The second half saw Nant get an early score when Fôn gathered a Denbigh kick for touch on the right and made 30 metres. The ball was then moved across the field for Jones to get his second try. By this time mistakes began to creep into Denbigh's game and the penalty count started to shift in Nant's favour, though they did concede some still.
Tries continued to be scored. Jac Ellis went over in the corner following a blindside break from a scrum. This brought up the 50 point score.
Nant then began to make some changes. The home team might have been glad to see the back of the abrasive Carwyn Ellis but this meant they had to contend with Sam Hughes who bundled over for the next try following a lineout. Elis Fôn then got on the score sheet for a second try when he took a quick tap penalty to force his way over after Nant had been stopped on the line.
The next score came from Brychan Dafydd when he broke clean through following several quick rucks.
A kick ahead brought the next try. The ball was gathered by the last defender but he could do nothing as Nant attackers swarmed around and the penalty was awarded for not releasing. The tapped penalty was moved to Hughes who went over for his second try.
Denbigh never gave up and soon had their opponents under some pressure only to see them break 90 metres upfield to just short of the try line. A penalty was awarded to Nant which was tapped for Emlyn Jones to go over. Four conversions in this half saw the final score of 7 - 83 to Nant.
