A warm, sunny Saturday saw Teirw Nant take on near neighbours, Colwyn Bay, in this inaugural.Aaron Newman Memorial match. Aaron was one of the 'hogia Nant' whose family are from Colwyn Bay and hold both rugby clubs close to their hearts.

Prior to the game the players and spectators held a minute silence in honour of Aaron.

The game, though a friendly, was nontheless a fully competitive affair between two of the strongest teams in North Division 2. It was Colwyn Bay who ran out the victors by 22 points to 12, outscoring Teirw by four tries to two, Teirw's tries coming from Josh Williams and Will Richardson, with a conversion by Jac Ellis.

After the match Aaron's dad Phill thanked those present and gave a special thanks to Mind and 2wish, Cymru for their help in coping with loss. The Aaron Newman Memorial Trophy was then presented to Colwyn Bay's captain by Olivia, Aaron's mum.

Following this game, Nant Conwy played a friendly/training game against Aberystwyth. Again, this was a very competitive match. Despite being under considerable pressure at times, Nant's defence was it's usual strong and disciplined self. They conceded a single try which came in the first half but themselves scored three tries through Gwion Jones, Sam Hughes and Rhydian Jones. This was a lead that Nant never looked like relinquishing.

The second half saw further tries by Gwion Jones, Cain Jones and Tomos Williams. These along with the three conversions by Cain Jones gave Nant their 34 - 5 victory.

This was a tough workout which will stand the team in good stead for their opening league fixture against Llandudno on 7 September.
