A National Cup match of thrills and spills; the thrills were the running rugby both teams adopted, the spills were the high number of dropped/missed passes. Fortunately, the referee was very good at playing the advantage, so there were fewer stoppages than might have been expected. The game produced ten tries in total, of which eight were scored by Teirw. In an evenly fought first half it was Teirw who took their opportunities to score three tries, the conversions and a penalty giving them a 24 - 0 half-time lead.
For most of the second half Teirw had the advantage and were able to run in a further 5 tries. Caernarfon scored two tries of their own late on and were pushing for a third when the final whistle blew.
The opening score was a penalty by Roberts. He was then on hand to gather a cross-field kick from Dafydd to go over in the corner. His conversion gave Teirw a 10 - 0 lead.
Gari Fôn then got in on the act with the first of his five tries, crossing the line on the left wing before touching down under the posts. Fullback Afan Jones was next to score going in on the left. The conversions by Roberts gave a 24 - 0 score-line.
The second half saw better handling by Teirw and Fôn was soon on the scoresheet again, in fact, he scored the next three tries as Teirw's handling and speed saw them begin to dominate. With each try being converted the home side established a 45 - 0 lead by the mid-way point of the half.
With ten minutes to go, the forwards got in on the scoring act when Llan Jones went over. Surprisingly, Roberts missed the conversion from in front of the posts, leaving the score at 50 - 0. This score seemed to spur Caernarfon and they began to retain the ball much better and were rewarded with a try by the forwards. Straight from the kick-off, however, Teirw restored. the margin and more, when an inception by Fôn left him with a clear run to the line. Roberts converted.
Caernarfon came back again to force their way over and were pushing for a third try when proceedings were brought to an end with a scoreline of 57 - 10. These two teams are scheduled to meet each other again in the League and The North Wales Division 2 cup.
Teirw now await the draw for the next round of the National Cup to be played on 18 January, 2025.
