CR Nant Conwy New Years Day Cold Water Dip

Information Pack

In order to raise money and promote Grŵp Hold Your Ground - Mental Health - CR Nant Conwy, we're organising for a group of players and supporters to take a dip in Llyn Geirionydd on January 1st 2025. Everyone who takes part will contribute £10 and a crowdfunder will also be set up.

The Main Risks

  • Hypothermia- being in cold water for a long time could cause the body temperature to drop suddenly which could cause the heart rate to increase and breathing problems.
  • Cold water shock - being in cold water could cause an involuntary physical reaction, especially if you have a heart condition.
  • Drowning - it is important that you are confident to swim in wild water
  • Injury – having wounds on the feet or other parts of the body

Arrangements and Rules

Everyone is asked to arrive at CR Nant Conwy by midday, January 1st and then share cars up to the lake. All participants must be over 18 years of age.

Buoys will be set in the lake and no one will go further. Everyone will be dipping in the water and NOT swimming.

Those who take part will enter the water in numbers of 10 at a time and in the water for a short time. Before the dip everyone MUST take time to familiarize themselves with the temperature of the water.

A paramedic and lifeguard will be present.

Everyone who takes part will be expected to have warm clothes and blankets ready by the time they get out of the water in order to restore body temperature.

If the lake is frozen the activity will be cancelled.

Anyone under the influence of alcohol is prohibited from taking part.

The organizers on behalf of CR Nant Conwy have the right to prevent anyone unsuitable from taking part.

Everyone will return to the club, where lobscows, a cuppa/pint and a welcome will await you.

You will need:

Water shoes or an old pair of trainers, swimming trunks, a warm cap, possibly gloves; layers of warm clothes and warm blankets by the time you get out of the water, a warm drink by the time you get out of the water.
