A mixed squad from the 1st and 2nd squads (Nant and Teirw) travelled across the border on Saturday for a pre-season match against Wirral, a match postponed 12 months ago due to storms and flooding.
It was played as one match but with four quarters, at which both clubs coaches made a number of substitutions. The teams were, on the whole, quite evenly, but it was during the second quarter that Wirral managed to catch Nant out with a number of quick tries. This put Wirral ahead by 33 - 14. Though Nant came storming back they never quite managed to catch the home team, the final score being 43 - 28.
The game was played in a competitive spirit with plenty of running rugby and no penalty attempts at goal.
Overall it helped get rid of some of the rustiness following the summer break. Hopefully, both sides will have gotten plenty out of the day, apart from the bruises.
